SPG (Salt, Pepper, Garlic) is a traditional, classic BBQ spice blend. In the home of barbecue cooking, the U.S. state of Texas, the salt-and-pepper or SPG rub blend is still considered the gold standard, the most basic seasoning. The idea is that we don’t want to overpower the basic flavor of meat slow-roasted over a low fire with special spices. This BBQ spice blend works best with beef. The salt-and-pepper and SPG blends also make an excellent base if you want to mix your own rub blend according to your personal taste.
