Sweet Rub: A sweet flavor profile balanced with a hint of spicy chili
This dry rub is perfect for slow-cooking ribs on the grill or in the smoker! It’s also excellent for chicken. You can make "sticky" chicken wings (in this case, brush the wings with your favorite BBQ sauce before finishing cooking) or simply sprinkle it on boneless thighs and grill them quickly—you’ll get a fantastic result with crispy skin and a caramelized spice crust. It’s important to note that we primarily recommend this for low-heat BBQ techniques, as the sugar content can burn prematurely when grilling at high heat. In the latter case, if you’re using it for regular grilling, don’t let the grill temperature exceed ~170–180°C!
The shaker bottle version of JD's BBQ comes in a UV-protected bottle, which is unique compared to most spice manufacturers' shaker bottles.
Flavor: Sweet and spicy chili flavor.
Recommended meats: Pork ribs and poultry.
Seasoning tips:
- We recommend the 300g shaker, which is more practical than the bag. It has a secure-sealing lid with two functions (perforated holes and fully open sides). The secure closure better preserves the aroma and provides better protection against humidity and moisture.
- Never sprinkle the rub directly from the shaker or bag onto hot food, as the rising steam can cause the seasoning to clump together. In such cases, first sprinkle the required amount into your hand or a spoon, and then onto the hot food.
- Rubbing is an important step in BBQ technique. A sufficiently thick layer of seasoning will help form a seasoning crust (bark) on the surface of the meat. Before cooking, try to apply it in as consistent a layer as possible; it should cover the meat well, but leave some space for the meat to breathe.
- Before applying the rub, shake the bottle—not just in one direction, but in various directions, swirling it around—to ensure the consistency of the grain size remains even.
- Due to its sugar content, SWEET RUB is primarily suitable for slow BBQ cooking and smoking at low temperatures, but when grilling quickly (e.g., chicken thighs), make sure the grill isn’t too hot. |
