Josper QBE charcoal: The excellent quality you’d expect from a premium brand.
White quebracho wood is a species native to subtropical regions, producing a particularly dense, heavy timber. This characteristic is especially advantageous, as its compact structure ensures a long burn time even in its charred form. Regardless, lighting it is no more difficult than with other types of charcoal; in fact, QBE charcoal burns with very little sparking or popping. Barbecue is its primary use, and it is ideal for "slow-cooking." The package contains large pieces measuring 80–150 mm. Of course, as with all charcoal, QBE may contain a few percent of broken smaller pieces and charcoal dust, but as expected from a premium product, this is truly minimal!
Is premium charcoal really more expensive?
Cheaper barbecue charcoal crumbles quickly and needs to be replenished, especially if you’re grilling for a long time at low heat. The advantage of premium charcoal is that the harder, denser charcoal burns longer, so you need to replenish it less often, meaning you use less. And when you look at the bottom line, it’s not certain that cheaper barbecue charcoal is actually cheaper.
