We've written about the benefits of pellet grills before, and now we'll take a closer look at their essential, namesake ingredient, the pellets. In our blog post, you'll learn how these ingredients are made, the unique properties of the different types, and for which type of food do we recommend each kind of pellet.

What is pellet?

The term “pellet” may already be familiar to you. Pellets are always made from fibrous materials by pressing, rarely using a binder. This process is used to make feed, fish feed, bedding, and fuel as well.

How are grill pellets different?

Needless to say, pellets for grilling need to be produced with a completely unique and new approach. It is very important to point out that grill pellets are not made from wood waste, but from wood exclusively produced for this purpose. Grill pellets can be made from different types of wood, which, during combustion, continuously smoke the meat with the characteristic properties of the wood. Manufacturers reacted very quickly to the appearance of pellet grills, so now you can get a wide range of unique and special type of pellets. As you may already know from grilling and BBQ, there is a significant difference between the different types of smoking woods, the use of which is essential in many cases, since charcoal is not able to give enough smoky flavor to the meat.

Organic Smoke pellets: premium quality, unmatched smoky flavor!

The name of Organic Smoke might be already familiar for their high quality Smoking chunks or Smoking chips products. Naturally they are present in the pellet market as well. Their properly prepared and dried, 100% natural wood raw materials produce extremely intense flavors. Their products do not contain additives, which is why they are ideal for biosmoking. They perfectly solve the slightly smoky aroma typical of pellet grills, so with their help you can achieve a much more pronounced flavor. You can choose from several flavors in our range which all provide different flavor when smoking. Another important factor that you should consider is the relationship between the smoke aroma and the type of food. It is important to know that almost any type of wood is excellent for smoking beef or hot smoking, but the recommendations for other types of meat and food are different.

Apple wood pellet

Composition: 100% apple wood, no additives or oil derivatives.

Apple wood is one of the most popular material in the world of smoking, due to its light, not too strong, sweet aroma. If you are new to smoking, it is best to choose this type first, as it is not too characteristic and does not have a bitter aftertaste. Based on the widely established recommendations, the apple wood smoking pellet is excellent for beef, poultry, pork, and even vegetables.

Cherry wood pellet

Composition: 100% cherry wood, no additives or oil derivatives.

Similarily to apple wood, cherry wood pellet smoke has a sweet aroma, but it elevates the smoky flavor to a more distinctive level. We primarily recommend it for duck breast and turkey breast, but like most wood types, it can be used for almost any meat depending on individual taste, so it is also excellent for beef, pork and other poultry.

Oak wood pellet

Composition: 100% oak wood, no additives or oil derivatives.

Oak wood pellets is one of the most classic and versatile choice for smoking. Its aroma is less intensely sweet than apple or cherry, but not too “heavy.” They bring out the natural aroma of the raw material without overwhelming it. They are primarily recommended for beef, pork, and lamb.

A special treat: Whiskey pellet

Composition: 100% authentic whiskey barrels made of European oak staves used in aging whiskey, no additives or oil derivatives.

We recommend Organic Smoke's newest speciality to foodies, grillmasters, those who appreciate eco-friendly and artisan products and of course, whiskey enthusiasts. Made from carefully processed barrels used in aging whiskey, these pellets carry the properties of oak wood, enriching and elevating it. The wood has absorbed the aroma of whiskey over the years of aging, thus infusing smoke with deep vanilla, caramel, spicy and oaky notes. It can be used in a variety of ways: it is excellent for smoking beef, pork, lamb and game meat or even cheese.

Break the limits!

Made of 100% natural wood, these pellets perfectly convey the flavors characteristic of the wood. However, you can not only use them on their own, but you can also experiment with the flavors that suit you best by making different blends. To make your own pellet blend even more unique, you can also use aroma pellets for flavoring.

That's not all! The use of pellets is not limited to pellet grills! You can also try these flavors for smoking in your charcoal grill if you'd like. Or even a gas grill, all you need is a Smoking Box.
