We are the BBQ champions!

The Bánya BBQ and Blues Festival was held for the fifth time on September 6–7, 2024. The Grilldepot team took first place in the Saturday side-by-side grill competition. Our photo gallery offers a glimpse of the event for those who missed it.

A kétnapos rendezvényen számos program és koncert szórakoztatta a látogatókat. A második napon rendezett versenyen Hamburger és BBQ oldalas kategóriában mérethették meg magukat a csapatok. A Grilldepot csapata idén is részt vett, Nagy Bence és Szilágyi Zoltán személyében.

Ready, set, BBQ!

On the day of the competition, setting up the tent was followed by the meat distribution. We managed to select some nice ribs; after removing the membrane and doing some trimming, the seasoning could begin.

The organizers distributed ground beef for the hamburger base. The primary task here was adding lard. Each contestant could adjust the ratio using the lard they brought. Additionally, this year a secret ingredient was also distributed, which had to be used in the hamburger.

This ingredient was raisins.

After much deliberation, we finally soaked the raisins in rum, which we later chopped up and added to the cucumber jam.

The dish was prepared exactly the same way as last year, in the hope that it would once again win over the judges and secure the top spot on the podium. It was a good decision, as we successfully defended our title from last year.

Burger Contest

We also competed in the burger contest, where this year’s Grilldepot burger was made with the following ingredients:

  • brioche bun
  • arugula and hazelnut feta cream
  • onions fried in soy sauce
  • 2 smash patties
  • cheddar cheese
  • bacon fried in elderflower syrup
  • raisin-rum cucumber relish
  • tortilla chips.

Unfortunately, with this burger, we only finished in the middle of the pack in this year’s competition, which featured 20 teams.

The smoke slowly cleared, but the experience and the memories of the flavors will stay with us—next year, we’ll return to the grill with just as much enthusiasm.
